Asylum Law

As your asylum solicitor it’s our job to show, not just that you have a valid asylum claim, but that you have well-founded fears that you are being targeted because of your membership of particular groups. For example because of your sexual orientation or your political opinions.

LGBTQI persecution claims - UK asylum solicitors

Do you feel unsafe in your home country and unprotected by the authorities there? If you do, you may be able to claim asylum in the UK. But it’s important to get advice quickly. Any significant delay in claiming asylum can be fatal to your case.

We can discuss your options and our approach to fees in asylum and immigration cases.

Since its inception Milestone Solicitors has developed particular expertise in taking on cases involving members of the LGBTQI community. Specifically, those who live in fear of persecution because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The team here understands the unique challenges faced by LGBTQI asylum seekers. Many LGBTQI clients come from strict, conservative and religious cultures unused to describing their identities and sexual orientations or articulate their personal feelings. This is particularly the case in the context of an impersonal and formal Home Office asylum interview. We work closely with clients to ensure they understand the intricacies of the asylum process and prepare them thoroughly for official interviews and other procedures.

Can I Claim Asylum?

To successfully claim asylum in the UK you must qualify for refugee status. The UK is a signatory to the 1951 UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. It must therefore afford all the Convention rights to anyone who is a refugee. Under the rules a refugee is a person who has a well-founded fear of persecution on account of one or more of the following:

  • Race
  • Religion
  • Nationality
  • Membership of a particular social group
  • Political opinion
