Who we are

Uma Devi Rajasundram

Managing Director
Immigration & Asylum

Uma Devi Rajasundram is the founding Director of Milestone Solicitors and specialises in Immigration and Asylum Law. She worked in various commercial fields for over 18 years before commencing legal practice. Prior to founding Milestone Solicitors, she was the Head of Immigration at a City Law firm renowned for dealing with private and legal aid clients.

Uma was admitted to the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2002 and was called to the Bar in 2003. She was also admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2004. She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in June 2010. As a solicitor she has qualified under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme as a Level 2 Senior Caseworker and Supervisor and has acquired extensive experience in the field of immigration, nationality, and asylum law. She boasts a high success rate in her immigration applications and appeals. Work includes Article 8 applications, judicial review applications, points-based applications and appeals, business immigration, asylum, entry clearance applications and appeals, bail and deportation.

Uma has a particular interest in LGBTQIA+ asylum claims and has achieved highly successful outcomes in this field. She is renowned for her empathetic and sympathetic approach to clients.

Uma is fluent in Malay, Indonesia and Tamil languages.

Alketa Shuli

Head of Immigration

Alketa is an experienced solicitor specializing in a broad spectrum of immigration, nationality, and asylum matters. She has successfully represented clients in complex cases, ranging from Home Office applications to judicial reviews and appeals against government decisions.

Renowned for her expertise in civil liberties, human rights, and advocacy for survivors of trafficking and domestic violence, Alketa excels at working with vulnerable clients, often identifying critical issues that may be overlooked or difficult for clients to disclose.

As a Level 2 Senior Caseworker accredited by the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme, Alketa is qualified to assist clients who are unable to afford private legal representation.

Though based in London, Alketa is frequently instructed by clients across the UK, reflecting the widespread trust and confidence in her professional capabilities.

Ferwah Rehan

Solicitor

Ferwah Rehan is a highly skilled and dedicated immigration solicitor, with a strong focus on asylum and human rights claims.

Ferwah holds an LLB Degree from University of London and she was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in November 2018.

She has since demonstrated an impressive success rate in these areas of law. In addition to her expertise in asylum and human rights, she has extensive experience handling entry clearance and nationality cases, reflecting her broad knowledge in immigration and asylum law.

Ferwah is committed to safeguarding her clients’ rights and is frequently instructed in appeal cases. From the outset, she takes a diligent and meticulous approach, ensuring that she fully understands the complexities of her clients’ situations. She is known for her resilience under pressure and her ability to meet tight deadlines efficiently.

Ferwah is fluent in both Urdu and Hindi, which allows her to effectively serve a diverse range of clients.

Jet Thien

Solicitor

Jet has gained over ten years’ experience working in Malaysia in litigation, commercial, probate and estate administration and family law.

In the UK, Jet graduated from the University of Northumbria with a Bachelor of Laws. She completed her Legal Practice Course at the BPP University in London and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in March 2020.

Jet has experience in various aspects of immigration law and specialises in asylum and human rights especially claims involving LGBTQIA+ applications. She is multilingual and is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, Hakka and Malay. Her linguistic abilities allow her to communicate with clients in their native language. This provides reassurance and enables her to gain a deep understanding of their position.

Jade Lian Ke Khoo

Paralegal

Jade is a Paralegal at Milestone Solicitors. She holds an LLB Law Degree from the University of Warwick and have completed the Bar Vocational Studies as part of her Masters in Law. With experience in civil litigation and criminal litigation, Jade has a solid foundation in legal practice. Her passion for human rights drives her to engage with controversial topics, as demonstrated by her dissertation on the legalisation of physician-assisted suicide. Her academic background and commitment to advocacy make Jade a thoughtful and dynamic contributor to the field of law.

Marwa Benaichouche

Trainee Solicitor

Marwa is a committed caseworker and trainee solicitor currently pursuing the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) at BPP University. Since joining Milestone Solicitors in August 2022 as a junior paralegal, she has swiftly advanced to head the paralegal team, successfully managing a diverse range of cases, including sponsorship, asylum, private life matters, and appeals. 

A graduate of University College London (UCL) with an LLB, Marwa earned a First Class in her dissertation on police judicial review, showcasing her strong foundation in legal principles. She also played a pivotal role as head mentor for the first Target Law Program at UCL, guiding fellow students in their legal careers. 

As she continues her legal journey, Marwa is eager to deepen her expertise and make a meaningful impact at Milestone Solicitors.

Samuel Watkins

Immigration Advisor

With over 15 years’ experience, Samuel specialises in asylum law, detained casework and immigration detention matters including bail and appeal applications.

He has significant experience dealing with vulnerable clients, including those in detention, those suffering from psychological issues and victims of torture and trafficking. He has experience in challenging the detention of vulnerable clients and has achieved success securing their release.

Samuel has an LLB (hons) degree from the University of North London. He is accredited as a Level 2 Senior Caseworker under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme, which means he has demonstrated the high level of competence and specialist knowledge in immigration and asylum law required by the Law Society. This enables him to advise and assist both private paying and publicly funded clients.

He is committed to publicly funded work representing vulnerable people from all over the world.

Zeeshan Rafique

Financial Controller

Zeeshan has been the Head of Accounts since Milestone Solicitor’s formation in 2015. Zeeshan holds a Degree in Commerce and is ACCA qualified.

He has extensive experience in finance and accounting. He has overall responsibility for the accounts department, monitoring general accounting practises, budgeting, cost analysis, strategic planning, developing internal accounting controls & procedures, PAYE, VAT and ensuring strict compliance with the Solicitors Accounting Rules. 

He works closely with the management team to ensure smooth running of the firm.
When not at work, Zeeshan’s interests include playing cricket, reading self-development & philosophical books, fitness training and spending time with his family.

Zahrol Sanif

Legal Cashier

Zahrol joined Milestone Solicitors in 2019. Prior to this he worked in various other firms, including a local council.

He is responsible for the processing and payment of invoices, billing civil Immigration and asylum work both private and legal aid together with various other financial administration duties.
 
Zahrol enjoys music and spending time with his family.
