Funding for your Immigration or Asylum case
Milestone Solicitors focuses exclusively on immigration and asylum cases. Many of our clients are in vulnerable positions and of limited means. Paying for legal advice is a big issue for most. That’s why we are committed to being completely open about how we charge. Navigating the complexities of the immigration and asylum systems in the UK is stressful enough without the additional worry of unexpected legal bills and hidden charges.
There are two ways for you to fund you immigration or asylum case with us at Milestone:
Legal Aid
Legal Aid is available in certain cases, including asylum, and immigration cases. But not every law firm can offer advice on this basis. Firms must have enough expertise in the law to be government-approved for the Legal Aid scheme. Milestone Solicitors is one such firm and is a fully accredited by the Legal Aid Agency. If you think you may qualify, please get in touch.
Call us now on +44 (0) 203-500-0385
We can go through the requirements with you personally. If you are eligible for legal aid, the government will pay for your legal advice and representation.
Private Funding
You can also pay our fees personally.
A full list of our fees for each type of immigration and asylum application is available here. We should emphasise that the fees we’ve set out are a guide only. If your case proves straightforward there may be a reduction. Similarly if there are unforeseen complexities our fees may rise. Rest assured however we will always agree additional expenditure with you before we incur it, and we’ll give you clear notice if we think your case may take longer or is more complex that originally anticipated.
If you think you may need advice on an aspect of immigration or asylum that’s not on the list, please contact us directly and we will provide an estimate of the likely cost of your case.

Fees for your Immigration
We want you to be as well informed as possible about what your immigration or asylum case might cost if you choose Milestone to represent you. Below is a comprehensive list of our fixed fees for most of the work we carry out.
It’s important to remember that with all legal casework there is an element of uncertainty – your case may become more complex than originally envisaged. Conversely your issues may be resolved more swiftly than anticipated. Our fixed fees should therefore be seen as a guide to our costs – albeit a guide that we try to stick to as rigorously as possible.
Once we have taken your full instructions and understand the precise nature of your case we will be able to agree a more accurate estimate of costs or agree a fixed fee if possible. We won’t undertake any work on your behalf until you are happy with our proposed fee structure.
If a fixed fee agreement isn’t possible because of the specifics of your case we’ll work on an agreed hourly rate. Our hourly rates are competitive and comply with professional guidance. They depend upon the seniority of the solicitor involved.
Broadly speaking the rates are:
Position | Fee |
---|---|
Partner | £450 – 550 |
Solicitor with at least eight years’ experience | £350 – 450 |
Solicitor with at least four to eight years’ experience | £270 – 350 |
Solicitor with less than four years’ experience | £190 – 260 |
Trainee, paralegal or equivalent | £160 |
Initial Consultation
When you first contact us by telephone or email, we will take down initial information so that we can review your case and understand the issues, your immigration history, and objectives. We will then identity the best level of solicitor suited to your case and arrange thereafter the main initial consultation at our offices or via video conferencing.
Consultation – Meeting with Solicitor
Following the initial consultation, an appointment with a fixed fee consultation will be scheduled at a time and date agreed with you. Fees for the consultation will be agreed prior to your appointment. Here we will strategise your case and work out the most suitable plan of action and how to achieve this.
Cost for Initial Consultation:
Position | Fee |
---|---|
Senior Solicitor | £200 |
Solicitors & Senior Paralegals | £100 |
The consultation is up to 1 hour and we will advise you of your rights and any course of action that is available to you. We will advise you as to the merits and the prospects for success, with an estimate of the costs that will be incurred in the case.
During this consultation we will review any previous refusals, identify any difficulties and complexities with your case and work out the best course of action. We will apply the law to your case and on agreeing fees, we will open your file and formally accept you as a client of the firm.
Below is our table of fixed fee charges. As mentioned above these fees should be viewed as a guide only.
